Congress Chintan Shivir: No One To Hold Party Post Beyond 5 Yrs, Performance Assessment, Mandals Among Measures Decided

New Delhi: On the first day of the Congress’ ‘Chintan Shivir’, general secretary Ajay Maken made important announcements on the future course of the grand old party. It has been decided that no person will hold any post beyond 5 years in the party. Other measures include setting up of internal public insight department, performance assessment mechanism, mandals between blocs & booths, and there will be at least 50% youth at every level. The Chintan Shivir is being organised by the Congress in view of its recent debacle in five states’ polls.

Congress general secretary Ajay Maken said that “there’s almost complete unanimity among panel members on the proposal to ensure that party leaders don’t give tickets to their kin or relatives without any work in the party, at least 5 yrs of prior work in the party will be required.”

“Any person who is holding a post for 5 yrs should have to step down, & there should be a cooling period of at least 3 years for that person to come back on the same post. For more than 5 yrs a person should not be on the same post,” he informed, as quoted by news agency ANI.

Earlier in the day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reached Udaipur to attend the party’s three-day brainstorming session called ‘Nav Sankalp Chintan Shivir’.

In the Chintan Shivir, around 400 senior Congress leaders are participating to discuss issues related to ‘communal polarisation’, farmers’ issues, and strengthening the party for the upcoming elections, party sources told news agency ANI earlier.

Six groups have been formed and the focus of the discussions includes the upcoming state assembly elections that are due later this year, early next year, and even the general elections of 2024.

The discussions will be held on the first and second days and the observations will be recorded in the form of a declaration which will be discussed at the CWC meeting on the third day.

According to a report by ANI, a party member who is active in the shivir said that the motto of this brainstorming session is to deliberate upon the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The first day will have an address by interim party president Sonia Gandhi with Rahul Gandhi’s speech on the third day and the concluding remarks of Sonia Gandhi.
